The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB) was created on November 25, 1964 and, hence, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014. Throughout these 50 years, BIRA-IASB has grown into an internationally renowned partner in the research domain of aeronomy.

To celebrate this, BIRA-IASB had the following activities:

• • 01-07-2014: Travelling exhibitions (Planetarium, Eurospace Center Redu)

• • 11/12-10-2014: Open doors Space Pole (theme 50th anniversary of BIRA-IASB)

• • 25-11-2014: Academic session (50 years celebration)

• • 25-11-2014: Publication of a jubilee edition about 50 years of aeronomy (book)

• • 28-11-2014: Special issue of Science Connection related to aeronomy
